Creating an axis set allows you to easily create a reusable member list, it was introduced in Version 8.1

To do this, right click on a columns or rows dimension label, and pick Axis -> Create Named Set.

You will be prompted for a name, and whether or not to used a fixed member list. The difference between using a fixed list and not is:

  • Standard: Member selections are preserved, so a top 10 will be re-run depending on the grid headers.
  • Fixed: Members are captured as they currently are, so the top 10 list is saved, and a ranking isn't done again if the headers change.

You can view or edit the named set from the MDX Calculations screen.
